La Chaqueta Azul

Practicing DO and IDO with “little pronoun stories”.
[pronouns + conjugated verb] tell a little story:
- who it lands on
- who or what is involved
- what the action is and who did it
—me preguntó.
—Gracias. Mañana vuelvo a buscarla.
me – who it lands on (me)
la – who or what is involved (la chaqueta)
puede taer – the action and who does it: you can bring it (usted)
—Claro, ahora se la traigo.
se la traigo
se – who it lands on (you / usted). It replaces le when le comes before la.
la – who or what is involved (la chaqueta)
traigo – what the action is and who did it (I bring)
Cuando volvió, me la probé. Las mangas eran demasiado largas.
me la probé
me – who it lands on (me)
la – who or what is involved (la chaqueta)
probé – what the action is and who did it (I tried)
Note: the pronoun and the conjugated verb relate to the same person – probarse
—¿Qué tal le queda? —me preguntó.
le – who it lands on (usted)
queda – what the action is and who did it (third person; it fits)
me quedan
me – who it lands on (me)
quedan – what the action is and who did it (they fit – the sleeves)
quedar can mean “to stay” or “to remain.” But it has other common uses.
With clothes, quedarle means “to fit” or “to look on someone”
Las mangas son demasiado largas is natural: “The sleeves are too long.”
Las mangas me quedan largas adds “on me”—they’re too long for my arms.
me – who it lands on (me)
la – who or what is involved (la chaqueta)
llevo – what the action is and who did it (I take)
Note: the pronoun and the conjugated verb relate to the same person – llevarse – to take with – pronominal
se – who it lands on (usted)
la – who or what is involved (la chaqueta)
guardo – what the action is and who did it (I save – the dependieta)
—Gracias. Mañana vuelvo a buscarla.
