When you have two or more singular objects like una bolsa and una revista, the verb can either be singular or plural, depending on how the speaker views those items:

1️⃣ If you view them as a collective unit, you can use the singular form:

  • En el otro lado de la maleta ya está empacada una bolsa pequeña y una revista.
(On the other side of the suitcase, a small bag and a magazine are already packed.)

2️⃣ If you view them as individual items, then the verb is plural:

  • En el otro lado de la maleta ya están empacados una bolsa pequeña y una revista.
(On the other side of the suitcase, a small bag and a magazine are already packed.)

In Mexico (and most of Latin America), it’s more common to use the plural form because they are seen as separate items.

Me pregunto a dónde va.

La revista es sobre arte de interiores, entonces no me da ninguna clave.

so this is another layer to the IOP and IOP you literally cannot use la/lo with any verb, only direct object verbs like eat, read, buy, see

Solamente su ropa da una idea sobre su destino.

Quiero pensar que ella se va a Grecia. Me gustaría ir a Grecia y montar una Vespa en un pueblo pequeño con esos hermosos edificios blancos.
